AHLAN! Welcome to UCL and the society of Om El Donya! Within the diverse student body of UCL, the Egyptian Society activities revolve around two central aims:
1. Sharing and promoting Egyptian culture and history with the wider UCL community through cultural events complimented historical talks.
2. Providing an intimate community for Egyptian UCL students to connect and experience a taste of home throughout the term time.
As a society, we aim to provide UCL with an opportunity to experience a taste of our homeland, both figuratively and literally. Throughout our events, we aim to provide Egyptian snacks and outings indulging in Egyptian cuisine.
Additionally, we hope to bring discussion about the homeland to our university through events exploring our history in the eyes of our members as we are curious to hear the various experiences of our community. This will be done through lively debates as well as other events exploring British-Egyptian history.
Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world. Consequently, the influence of Egyptian culture, media, and literature on the wider region is difficult to understate. As a society, we aim to experience this footprint through social events such as movie nights.
The Egyptian Society is very welcoming to the input of our membership and encourages you to get in touch with us to have a say in the running of our events and join the committee.
We hope that you'll be able to join us on our journey this year and make sure to follow our accounts, join our group chat and our society for an authentic experience of the land of the Nile.
