Bored of the ground?
UCLCMC is UCL's Climbing and Mountaineering Club.
We meet every Wednesday and Friday (around 5pm) at the Castle Climbing Centre for a few hours of climbing. Afterwards, you can usually find us in the Brownswood pub down the road! Some members also climb regularly at other climbing gyms around London including EustonWall, Westway and Yonder; spot us by our purple ‘Climb UCL’ T-shirts!
Every year, we run trips around the UK and beyond, including:
- A climbing trip to Portland, Dorset, at the end of the first half term.
- A Winter mountaineering trip
- And an abroad climbing/mountaineering trip during the easter break. Previous trips went to climbing spots across Spain and Sicily!
Members often organise their own trips as well; they can usually be found getting their fix of snow and ice in Scotland during the winter and the Alps during the summer seasons.
Becoming a member of the club gives you the opportunity to learn something new, gain new heights, and meet new people. Here is what will be included in the £35 annual membership:
- You'll be able to join us for outdoor climbing trips in the UK and abroad.
- You will have access to our gear cupboard, which contains thousands of pounds worth of advanced climbing and mountaineering kit. If you don't know what you're doing, don't worry, we're here to teach beginners and help improve your skills and knowledge.
- We can support you by loaning gear, giving advice, and teaching anyone who needs help.
- By joining the club, you will become a student member of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC). This gives you access to online resources, forums, brand and store discounts, and UK insurance for our activities which are considered to be high-risk (ie. trips!).
- As a member, you will have access to social events around campus and London including; club crawls, slacklining events, movie nights, and talks from the BMC.
- You will get our club's t-shirt: "Climb UCL!"
- If you're one of the competitive, power-screaming, try-hard boulderers, you'll be happy to know that we compete in competitions like BUCS and LUBE. If selected during our team trials, you will be trained by our Captain and Vice-Captain, who are both passionate and experienced climbers eager to make you progress and represent UCL in bouldering competitions.
Whether it's rock climbing, competing, alpine mountaineering, or just an interest in the great outdoors, people of all abilities and levels are welcome; come and see what we're all about!
