🏆Shortlisted for Most Developed Arts Society 2022/23🏆
Founded as BALLS! in 2002 and successor to the UCL Tossers. For over twenty years, the Balls! Juggling & Circus Society has been providing a space for those wishing to practice juggling, flow arts, and other circus skills. Our regular sessions mix individual learning with workshops in an informal and friendly atmosphere.
Learn a skill that will last you for life! – or, if you end up outside Jobcentre because you do a fake humanities degree, a skill that will keep you alive. We currently teach juggling, unicycling, mini circus biking, poi, staff spinning, diabolo, hula hooping, and much more. We also hold monthly Fire Nights where you will be able to try out your skills with extra consequences (fire), along with various meetups and plenty of social events!
All skill levels are welcome – whether you are looking for a space to practice cool circus tricks or want to learn a new skill to convince your ex that you are living your best life without them; join us in the North Cloisters every Tuesday 7-9pm for our regular sessions and at the Huntley from 9-10pm for our social afterwards!
FAQ
- Do I need prior experience in juggling?
-
No, that's what we're here for!
We have a variety of equipment readily available for use during our regular sessions, every Tuesday 7-9pm - you can check the full list here - but you are obviously welcome to bring your own kit as well.
- Is it true that you guys juggle with fire?
-
Yes! We meet every last Friday of the month during term time (or last Friday before end of term) - subject to weather and UCL venue bookings - to juggle and spin with fire on the Main Quad.
Can I juggle with fire? Yes and No - first we need to be satisfied with your skills with regular non-fire equipment. The best way to do that is to attend our regular sessions every Tuesday from 7-9pm in the North Cloisters!
What if I can't juggle with fire? You're still welcome to come and watch! We'll also bring out some of our LED equipment so that nobody is left out.
- How would joining the Balls! Juggling & Circus Society advance my career?
-
First, you need to lighten up and stop thinking about your career for one hot second. There is more to university than networking, and you've got the rest of your life to worry about it.
Second, you can find us on LinkedIn.
Third, it might surprise you to find that it pays to be a clown these days. We offer both paid and volunteering opportunities throughout the year. Previously, we've appeared as extras on season 17 of Britain's Got Talent, hosted a workshop for the Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children, performed alongside a local rock band in a live music venue in Camden, and a number of welfare days for UCL faculty members.
The UCL Balls! Juggling and Circus Society have signed the Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment Pledge.
This Society has been awarded a Silver Development Award for their work in the 2023-24 academic year
