Help us celebrate marginalised voices with Liberate: The Phineas Art Gallery
Are you an artist with a story to tell? You could have your art displayed in Phineas.
Last term, our very first Liberate: The Phineas Art Gallery exhibition turned Phineas into more than just a bar. It has become a space for storytelling and celebration. From powerful visuals to intimate narratives, the showcase amplified voices too often overlooked and sparked conversations that carried well beyond our walls.

Now, we’re back for the second exhibition. As your Equity and Inclusion Officer, I’m continuing the mission to platform artists from marginalised communities and to honour the many ways art can reclaim, resist and reimagine. This is your chance to be part of that movement. You can now submit your work and help us bring another wave of stories and perspectives to the gallery.
Read on to find out how you can submit your art...
The deadline for submission is 17 October 2025
Why Liberate?
We have chosen this theme to provide a platform for marginalised voices that are often underrepresented in creative spaces. By prioritising members of UCL’s liberation networks, we aim to create a gallery that showcases artistic talent whilst amplifying underrepresented voices, showcasing their talent.
Art has the power to reclaim narratives, build empathy and inspire change; this gallery seeks to embody exactly that.
Who can submit?
This is open to all students! We welcome submissions across various artistic mediums, including:
- Painting
- Photography
- Digital art (printable on paper)
- Canvas (printable on paper)
No matter your style or experience level, if your work speaks to the theme of "liberating marginalised voices", we want to hear from you.
This is what you submitted in the past...

What’s in it for you?
Your submission will enter into a competition which will be judged by your elected Student Officers (POC, Disabled Students, LGBTQ+, Trans Students, Women's) and Arts Officer and moderated by the Equity and Inclusion Officer.
We'll showcase selected artwork across our channels and on campus. We will be having an exhibition opening night in late October, open to all to honour your art and making it a space to truly be seen.
Submit your art now!
