Each year in March, Students' Union UCL holds the largest student election in the UK with more than 3,000 candidates and 10,000 voters.
Students elect the leaders of their club, society and network, but crucially they also elect the Sabbatical Officers and Student Trustees of Students' Union UCL.
The Sabbatical Officers are part of almost every UCL committee, representing students on a huge range of topics. Two of the officers are Ex Offio membrs of UCL Council, helping to make significant decisions about the future of UCL. All of the officers are Trustees of Students' Union UCL, setting the strategic direction of the organisation whilst in office. As well as their work through committees and working groups, Sabbatical Officers also follow their own projects and priorities - this year our President, Mary, has been helping make an impact on students sustainability skills, launching a new conference after coming back from COP28.
How you can help:
Vote Week is 11 - 15 March
We want as many students as possible to vote and take part in the election. Having the widest possible pool of voters really helps ensure those elected are representative of our enormously diverse community.
Four ways to help:
- Remind your students to vote between 11 - 15 March. Share a link to the Leadership Race page with your students via your moodle, an email list, or Teams channel.
- Start or end a lecture with a Vote Week slide. This helps show that you support and endorse the election, if you wanted to, you could give students a couple of minutes at the end a lecture to cast their vote via their phone. Find the slides in here.
- Post on your departmental or faculty social media. We've got tonnes of digital assets, videos, graphics, or just branded backgrounds, for you to use on your social media. Help keep the Leadership Race front of mind by sharing through your channels.
- Be supportive of students who are standing for election. Someone you know might be standing for election this week, this can be a stressful and busy time. If they need help, our team is ready to help support students, answer questions, and provide general advice. All of this can be accessed via [email protected]
