Going to University can often feel overwhelming - whether you've been here for a day or three years, everyone is prone to a bit of FOMO (fear of missing out) every now and then. It is easy to be deceived that your peers are always busy, with people only posting their best moments on social media. As well as this, moving to a new city can be intimidating - it can be hard to know how to meet new people, or even just to pluck up the courage to invite a course mate for coffee. This is where CommnRoom comes in.

Founded by current UCL students and recent graduates, CommnRoom is an app that aims to bring students together based on their common hobbies and passions, irrespective of their ethnicity, gender, sexuality or disability. Supported by UCL’s startup incubator, the app has just been rolled out and can be downloaded by UCL students.

The app is simple to use – find an event or hobby, register your interest, and immediately find a group of people to chat to. By joining a group – e.g. ‘Galleries and Museums’ – you’ll immediately be welcomed into a community of likeminded people. It's an easy way to find friendly faces on campus, with no need for any awkward icebreakers.

You can download it on the App Store here.
