Join Us for an afternoon of cleaning up East London's canals in a canoe!
Make a real difference UCL East's local environment! Paddle along the canal by canoe, work as a team to spot and collect litter, and help create a cleaner, healthier space for people and wildlife. It's a great chance to get outdoors, try something different, meet new people, and enjoy a fun day on the water while giving back to the community. No previous canoeing experience is needed, and all equipment and safety instruction will be provided.
We will be partnering with ELCAN for this activity. ELCAN CIC (Ecology of London’s Canals and Navigations) is a Community Interest Company dedicated to improving the ecology of waterways while making them accessible to everyone. Working with watersport experts, environmental researchers, charities and community partners, ELCAN delivers projects that tackle plastic pollution, monitor invasive species, promote inclusive watersports, and encourage community engagement with local blue spaces
What’s a Big Help Out?

Meet-Up Point:
Meet point: Poplar Union 2 Cotall St, Poplar, London E14 6TL
If you fancy a hot drink or snack before, E5 bakehouse is a lovely local spot right next to our meet point. We'll head here afterwards for a refreshment, to socialise and have a reflective debrief!
Additional Information:
- On the day, please wear clothes suitable for moderate outdoor activity - you don't need any special gear, just comfy clothes which aren't too precious and sensible, closed toe flat shoes. People tend to stay mostly dry other than a few paddle splashes, but you may want to bring a change of clothes just in case.
- A dedicated room will be available for storing personal belongings. There are toilets onsite.
By signing up, you’ve claimed a limited ticket. This ticket does not confirm your spot as we will send you an email closer to the date to ask you to confirm your place, as there are only a limited number of spots available.
