Peniel Ibe- Climate Justice and Local Policy Manager @ National Partnership for New Americans
Peniel Ibe is the Climate Justice Policy Manager at the National Partnership for New Americans. She currently leads their ongoing efforts at the intersection of immigrant rights, climate adaptation, climate disaster resilience, and just transition policies. Prior to this role, she worked briefly as a U.S. Policy Specialist in Interagency Coordination for the Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs (USAID) and as Global Policy Engagement Coordinator for the American Friends Service Committee. Peniel has nearly 10 years of experience coordinating multiracial grassroots immigrant and climate-justice engagement to drive policy change. She also leads Climate Justice, Creative Culture and Communities for Peace (CCC for Peace), an initiative facilitating the participation of Nigerian youth in the local-global discourse and advocacy on climate change through creative arts. She has a B. A in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Economics, Politics, and Policy from Earlham College, USA, and recently an MSc. in Disaster, Risk, and Resilience from University College London, Department of Risk, Disaster, and Resilience.
Finbarr Sweeney - Country Representative Myanmar Delegation @ Red Cross
Finbarr initially completed a BSc in Environmental Science, and then an MSc in Agroforestry. His initial MSc allowed him to take up his first position overseas as a community forestry coordinator in The Gambia. From there, he graduated to a more livelihoods and food security profile with expertise in rural and urban livelihoods and cash. This allowed him to take on a number of roles across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean, including in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Kenya, India, Haiti and North Korea. In 2021, Finbarr completed an MSc from UCL in Risk, Disaster, Resilience, allowing him to further develop his career path in the areas of disaster management, business continuity, and organizational development. He has worked for a number of INGOs and the Red Cross Movement and is currently the Head of Office for the German Red Cross in Myanmar. His interests including reading, running, squash and hosting cheese parties.
