What is sign language and British Sign Language?
Sign Language is a visual means of communication using body language, facial expressions, hand movements, lip patterns, and gestures. Sign Language is used mainly by people who are D/deaf or have hearing impairments, but can be used by anyone. The most common form of Sign Language in Britain is British Sign Language, also known as BSL. It has a distinct syntax and grammar system.
Over 18 million people in the UK are either Deaf, have some degree of hearing loss, or experience tinnitus. The global community of people who live with hearing loss is over 1.5 billion.
The session is located at UCL East - Marshgate, Room 636.
