Yaji in Snow
“Yaji in Snow” is a calm winter afternoon at Kew Gardens hosted by UCL Tea Society × Chinese Art Society.
The whole event is built around four simple parts:
Listening to Tea
We start by making hot tea together. While we wait for the tea leaves to slowly open, everyone can relax, drink tea and talk about small worries or thoughts that have been “covered by snow” recently.
Listening to the Wind
Then we sit and listen to live performances of sheng/xiao and erhu. The sound of these traditional instruments will mix with the quiet winter scenery of Kew Gardens, giving everyone a chance to slow down, breathe and simply listen.
Listening to What We Feel
After that, we will guide some very simple applied theatre activities and read a few short poems. You don’t need any acting experience. Through easy movement, short lines and small group games, everyone can express their own feelings and reactions to winter, music and tea.
Listening to Words
At the end, we share afternoon tea and snacks. This is a relaxed time to chat, exchange stories and get to know other people who like tea and art.
Who can join
This event is only open to Standard Members of UCL Tea Society or Chinese Art Society.
Please buy Standard Membership for at least one of the two societies before you sign up. If you are not a standard member, your booking may be cancelled.
After your place is confirmed, we will create a group chat for all participants. All details about the meeting point, time, what to bring and any updates will be shared in that group.
