Aviation is one of the fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions—and decarbonizing the sector is a critical challenge. This talk will explore global efforts to reduce aviation’s climate impact, with a focus on the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), a UN-backed initiative aiming to cap emissions at 2020 levels and reduce them by 80% by 2035. Central to this effort is the development and deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), which offer a promising path to low-carbon flight. Professor Chong will examine current SAF technologies, certification processes, and the economic and environmental pathways toward a cleaner aviation future.
Speaker: Professor Chong Cheng Tung (Associate Professor, Shanghai Jiao Tong University China-UK Low Carbon College)
