Do you need a more hopeful vision for the future, one in which both humans and wild nature can thrive in coexistence? The last 30 years have seen the rapid growth of a new, visceral response to the worldwide loss of nature - the growth of the global rewilding movement.

Dr Alister Scott, co-Director of the Global Rewilding Alliance, has been made the first Honorary Professor of Practice at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources and to mark this recognition he will talk on the theme of Rewilding Hope, followed by a panel discussion.

This early-evening event will be chaired by Anja Kueppers-McKinnon, a Berlin-based journalist, with other panellists including Danielle Mulder, BBC Director for Sustainability.

Alister will:

  • give an uplifting and visually stunning presentation that tells the story of the first 30 years of the global rewilding movement
  • share a plethora of rewilding successes, and
  • outline the megatrends that will continue to propel the growth of rewilding, regardless of short-term politics.

In an era of polycrisis and climate anxiety, we need 'system catalysts' - strategies that offer solutions to many problems at once, one of the biggest being despair and disengagement. Alister will suggest that rewilding is one such system catalyst, rewilding hope itself.

This event is part of UCL’s 28 Days of Sustainability - view the full programme of events.
