Join filmmaker Katharine Round in conversation with Penny Woolcock for a discussion about filmmaking, trust and the complicated relationships that can develop when working with people and communities others might prefer you didn’t.
The conversation accompanies Katharine’s installation, Four Windows and a Room, which grew from an eight-year correspondence with Keith, a man who had spent much of his life in solitary confinement in the United States.
Through film clips and open conversation, Katharine and Penny will explore the intimacy, power and responsibility involved in building relationships through filmmaking, including who gets to tell certain stories, cross certain boundaries and enter particular spaces.
They’ll be joined by Simeon Moore, a music artist and community advocate whose work draws on his lived experience of street culture, the criminal justice system and personal transformation. A long-standing collaborator of Penny’s, Simeon contributed to the documentary One Mile Away and several subsequent projects.
The discussion will consider questions around representation, trust and responsibility, including what happens to these relationships after the camera stops.
