Join Katharine Round, Yvonne Jewkes and Janet Harbord for a conversation exploring the spaces, places and objects that shape who we become.

Drawing on Katharine’s installation, Four Windows and a Room, the discussion will consider how architecture can constrain or support our sense of self, how objects hold identity and memory, and how institutions organise space and power.

The installation grew from an eight-year correspondence with Keith, a man held in solitary confinement in the United States, where he spent 23 hours a day in a 5x9-foot cell for 25 years.

Katharine will be joined by Yvonne Jewkes, criminologist and leading prison design expert, and Professor Janet Harbord to explore what separates a room of confinement from a place of safety or belonging, and how people create meaning through the spaces and objects around them.
