Get creative and help bring UCL's Festival of Lights to life! Join us to paint and decorate your own clay diya, which will become part of a beautiful illuminated installation in the Main Quad during International Festival.
What to expect
Diyas are small traditional oil lamps used in celebrations such as Diwali, symbolising light, hope and new beginnings.
We're bringing students together to decorate hundreds of clay diyas, which will be displayed with battery-powered LED lights as part of our Festival of Lights installation.
Here's what's in store:
- Get creative – Paint and decorate a clay diya with your own colours, patterns, and designs
- Contribute to the installation – Your finished diya will join others in lighting up the Main Quad
- Try something new – Discover the cultural significance of diyas and their role in festivals of light
- Relax and connect – Take a break from studying, get crafty and meet other students
No artistic experience needed, and all materials will be provided. Just drop in, get painting and leave your mark on International Festival!
