What happens at the global conferences where countries negotiate action on climate change and biodiversity loss? Who takes part in these discussions, and how can research influence international decision-making?

Join us for UCL's COP Student Climate & Biodiversity Summit, a special event bringing together students and academics between this year's UN Biodiversity Conference and ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference, organised by the UCL Sustainability team.

Designed for students from all disciplines, the summit will provide an introduction to the international processes that shape global responses to the climate and nature crises. You'll learn about the role of the Conference of the Parties (COP) meetings, how agreements are negotiated, and the challenges involved in translating commitments into action.

The event will feature UCL academics and experts who have participated in COP processes, advising governments, contributing research, supporting international organisations and engaging with negotiations. Through panel discussions and interactive audience sessions, you'll gain insights into what happens behind the scenes at these global conferences and how academic expertise can help shape policy.

You will also have the opportunity to discuss the role of young people in international climate and biodiversity action, raise questions with academics involved in COP processes, and share your own perspectives on the issues that should be shaping future negotiations. The summit aims to create a space where students can engage directly with experts and ensure that their voices are part of the wider conversation around climate and nature.

Whether you're completely new to the world of international environmental politics or already engaged in sustainability issues, this is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of one of the most important global forums for tackling climate change and biodiversity loss, while ensuring student voices are part of the conversation.
