Join the UCL Chaplain and Interfaith Adviser for a contemplative and reflective service of Choral Evensong full of beautiful music! It will be sung by the University of London Chamber Choir at St. Giles-in-the-fields in the West End of London.

What is it?

Choral Evensong is a reflective, music‑led evening service in the Church of England that weaves together scripture, poetry, and choral music to create a space of stillness at the end of the day. Its heart is the singing of the choir: psalms, canticles such as the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, and an anthem, all framed by short prayers and readings. Because much of the service is sung on behalf of the congregation, those attending are free simply to sit, listen, and let the atmosphere do its work.

Who?

Anyone is welcome to attend regardless of your own faith or belief background. Those attending are not required to participate in any of the parts of the service. It is very common for people attending to simply sit and be present. Friends from other Christian traditions, other faiths, or no faith at all can comfortably attend on their own terms.

Why?

  • A shared cultural experience.
  • A moment of quiet in a demanding academic environment.
  • A musical tradition that transcends doctrinal boundaries.

Schedule for the day:

  • 17:30 -- Depart from the main entrance of the Student Centre to arrive by 18:00.
  • 18:00 - 18:40 -- The service takes place.
  • after 18:40 -- refreshments are served by the church.
