Chat to a UCL alumni this January through the 'Alumni-Student Chats' programme.
Alumni-Student Chats is a chance for you, as a member of the student community, to meet with a current UCL alumni, either online or in person, during January. Build your network as you start Term 2 of the Academic Year.
How does it work?
Participants are invited to arrange a 30-minute meeting with their matched alumni to take placed during the week Monday 27 - Friday 31 January 2025.
If you are interested in signing up, please complete an expression of interest form by Wednesday 15 January.
We will match you with another participate by sharing the email address you provide. Details of this, along with guidance on what subjects you might want to talk about, will be communicated by Tuesday 21 January.
It's up to you to arrange a phone call, a Skype or Zoom call, or whichever platform works best for you and your matched alumni. Your alumni match as also been asked to contact you, but please do take the initiative and reach out to your alumni too! If you're based in London and both you and your alumni would like to meet on or near campus, you can suggest this too. This meeting should take place between Monday 27 and Friday 31 January.
What should I talk about?
These conversations aren't prescriptive, you can talk about whatever you want. We aim to match you with an alumnus who studied a similar degree or is from a similar location. You can use the time to learn more about one another, your experience at UCL, your hometown, your career aspirations, what you are working on now, your challenges or successes.
We will update this page with further guidance in January, but some questions you may wish to ask are:
- How can I, as a student, make the most of my time at UCL?
- How can I best make friends whilst at UCL>
- What skills are employers looking for?
- What services / networks are helpful for working in a country outside the UK?
The most important thing is to be curious and approach these conversations as a change to learn more.
Following the chat
In February, we will send you a short survey to see how the meeting went.
There's no obligation on you to form a relationship beyond the conversation. It can be a one-off conversation, or the start of a productive relationship of sharing insights and valuable knowledge.
Spaces are limited, so please book your spot in advance.
