The UCL Sports Business Society is delighted to welcome Martin Smith, Partner and Head of Sport at HW Fisher, for an exclusive presentation exploring the financial and tax implications of a career in professional football.

With over 25 years of experience at HW Fisher, Martin is a specialist in sports taxation and accounting, advising professional athletes, including Premier League and Championship footballers, on their financial affairs. His work involves collaborating with football agents, sports lawyers and other advisers to navigate the complex financial considerations associated with professional sport.

Throughout the presentation, Martin will draw upon his extensive experience working with professional footballers to explore the tax implications of key career decisions, including player transfers, image rights, international moves and financial planning beyond retirement. He will also provide insight into the important role accountants play behind the scenes in the football industry.

The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with Martin, learn more about his professional experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the financial and commercial side of football.

Join us for an insightful evening exploring an often-overlooked aspect of the football industry and the opportunities available within sports finance, accounting and taxation.
