The Royal Institution, Ri, is an independent charity and our mission is to encourage people to think more deeply about the wonders and applications of science. This commitment drives everything we do - from our world famous CHRISTMAS LECTURES to our workshops in the L'Oreal Young Scientist Centre and Masterclasses for young people around the country. The public events in our theatre attract over 17,000 people a year and offer an opportunity for life-long learning in the sciences. Join our volunteering team to help the Royal Institution deliver fantastic interactive activities for young people throughout the year. As a volunteer, your role would be to run activities and demonstrate experiments to young people and their families. This could be anything from extracting DNA from strawberries to making balloon powered cars to smashing vegetables with liquid nitrogen! We provide all of the equipment and instructions so all you need to do is turn up and bring your enthusiasm for science. This is a great opportunity for those who want to gain skills in working with children, science communication and demonstrating science in an informal setting.

It's been a long wait, but we are excited to finally have Family Fun Days back at the Ri. This event runs on Saturday 23rd July 2022 from 10am – 5pm and is packed full of talks, demonstrations and hands on science. We will be celebrating the world of science, bringing back our favourite activities and demonstrations from over 15 years of Family Fun Days, plus lots of new stuff we've been working on over the years.
