We are looking for Volunteers to mentor young people in the framework of our Refugee Response Programme.
We offer mentoring to young people aged 10-25 who have arrived from a range of countries. In a programme adapted for the specific needs of refugees, our volunteers provide regular social, emotional and practical support, for one to two hours a week, for three to six months.
We offer volunteers bespoke and comprehensive training to ensure they’re prepared for their role, with ongoing support and structured supervisions, as well as a range of tailored resources. You’ll need to be able to commit to at least three months of support, and we require a DBS check, which we take care of, as well as two recent references.
*Please note that we require volunteers to be double vaccinated against Covid-19, and ideally boosted. Volunteers should have also received the MMR vaccine too.*
Volunteers will (among other things)
- provide emotional, social and practical support to refugee and asylum seeking young people aged 10-25.
- offer a listening ear
- signpost/ refer young people to other youth organisations
- help young people navigate the education system in the UK
- help them to adjust to the life in a new country
- helping them with their English language skills
- assist with exploring London as a city (museums, parks, etc.)
- helping them form and achieve future goals
Volunteers will be provided training by members of our organisation and encouraged to attend regular group supervision meetings.
Training includes
- Online theoretical training – 2 hours (in your own time, whenever it suits you)
- In person practical training – 4-5 hours (including specialist training to supporting refugee and asylum seeking families)
Volunteers will be expected to complete all training sessions and attend regular supervisions to ensure safe practice.
