Join us for the first-ever RACE Summit 2024: Racial Action for the Climate Emergency
The RACE Summit is a groundbreaking event bringing together individuals and organisations committed to transforming inclusion in the environment sector. This event is designed for individuals from racially and ethnically minoritised groups in the UK environment sector, as well as allies in positions of power and committed to collective action for inclusion and diversity.
The day will challenge, engage, and work with CEOs, HR professionals, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) leads. It aims to foster personal, organisational, and collective growth for enhanced inclusion. Participants will engage in constructive conversations, culminating in solid commitments from all attending organisations.
The event will be hosted by Sustainable UCL, in partnership with Students Organising for Sustainability UK, The Wildlife and Countryside Link, and the Diverse Sustainability Initiative.
We are seeking 8 enthusiastic and proactive student volunteers to participate in this significant event. These roles include:
Student facilitators (6 positions)
- Support the facilitation of one workshop each, taking minutes, and feeding back during group discussions.
Student bloggers and social media coordinators (2 positions)
- Write an engaging blog documenting the day.
- Live update social media platforms with event highlights and personal reflections.
- Capture and share memorable moments from the event.
For this opportunity, we know it is crucial to provide a platform for our students with lived experience of marginalisation and underrepresentation.
Therefore, we are seeking volunteers who:
- Identify as having lived experience of marginalisation and/or underrepresentation;
- Are a current UCL student (undergrad or postgrad);
- Have a passion for sustainability and inclusivity (no prior experience or current studies required);
- Are available for the full day of the event on 12th July, with your session assigned afterwards;
- Are willing to engage actively and constructively in discussions and activities.
Skills you will gain: Negotiation and influencing skills, stakeholder management skills, an understanding of EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) and positive action initiatives, as well as insight into training and development needs specific to the environment and sustainability sector.
