L'Arche London
We're L'Arche, an international movement of communities for people with and without learning disabilities. Description
Help out with planning and running parties and get-togethers for our community of people with and without learning disabilities.
If you enjoying playing host and throwing parties, this is the perfect opportunity for you! You'll gain experience of party planning, managing a budget, and making events accessible for people with complex needs.
This is a chance to join a fun community and make new friends.
Duties
We have regular community parties and gatherings which we always need support organising and running. You might help with preparing or giving out food, or with planning activities, or with setting up and clearing up. Or you might want to start by coming to an event as a friend and a guest and get to know people.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
The volunteers will be supported by the Volunteer Coordinator but on a day to day basis they will work with the members with learning disabilities and the assistants who support our members. We have a party planning committee made up of care assistants that you would work closely with.
Training
All volunteers receive a foundational level of training in health and safety and accompanying people with learning disabilities. There will be opportunities to receive additional training in first aid, sign language, autism, and health and safety.
This is a flexible opportunity that would happen mostly in the evenings. If you would like to take a lead on organising that would be a bigger commitment than, for example, baking cakes for a community gathering. The gatherings and parties are about once every 6-8 weeks.
