Long Covid Solidarity
The aim of this project is to help people with long covid or chronic fatigue, or their carers family or friends, to find support from other people who are going through the same thing.
Description

  • Volunteers will use details provided to match people for online peer to peer support between people with long covid/chronic fatigue.
  • They will also reach out to check everything is going OK with the matches, resolve issues, and take on board any feedback.

Duties

In addition to supporting with matches:

  • There will be additional opportunities for volunteers to help with outreach to promote the project. This includes running social media pages such as an Instagram account, and helping design the website so it is clear and useable.
  • Once we have enough people signed up and matching is working successfully, there will also an opportunity for volunteers to co-produce and run a book club/newsletter/other online activity that people who are using the matching service would like.

We are also very open to other ideas from volunteers about how to make this project run well!

Who will the volunteers be working with?
Adults with long covid or chronic fatigue.
Training
Appropriate training for working with vulnerable adults, and training around mutual aid and supporting peer-to-peer connections.

Time commitment

Approximately one hour a week working in pairs to match people - this is online. Also additional (probably fortnightly) short meetings to discuss how the project is going and what can be done to improve it.
As this project is run online, we will try and ensure that volunteers can work in person at UCL in pairs to do this if they prefer.
Application deadline

This is an opportunity offered by a Student-Led Volunteering Project. It is run by UCL students and supported and supervised by staff in Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service.
