Help us tell the stories that keep London playful.

We're looking for volunteer impact writers to craft clear, engaging articles about the impact of our work and the bigger ideas behind it: children’s right to play; making London a more child-friendly city; practical business models that help charities thrive when public funding is cut; and the value of adventure playgrounds and community gardens for low-income families and vulnerable people.

Topics we’d love to be written about (we’re also open to other community-positive themes):

  • The future of adventure playgrounds: Articles that explore the challenges adventure playgrounds face today, including funding, maintenance, safety and sustainability, and how good design can help these spaces survive and grow.
  • Student volunteers as future changemakers: Articles that explore how students can use their voices, creativity, and skills in design to respond to real social challenges through practical projects. 
  • Partnerships that support play spaces: Articles that explore how corporate volunteering, local partnerships and community involvement can help keep play spaces safe, active and well maintained.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking writing experience in community projects, community-led design processes, child-led play, social impact, or the effects of urbanisation in London.

Duties
  • As part of your induction, you'll attend a few of our corporate volunteer days so you can see our community work in action
  • Conduct research (including interviewing staff or community partners where appropriate) and write on a pre-agreed topic. We'd love to hear your ideas!
  • Draft 700–900-word features
  • Receive feedback on your writing
  • Have your work published on our site and partner channels, with full credit given

Training
You'll have an initial chat and regular check-ins with our Student Volunteering & Social Impact Coordinator, including goal-setting, feedback and progress reviews.
Part of your induction will involve attending a couple of our corporate volunteer days in London.
You can also attend one of our power tools training sessions if interested!

Time commitment

Part of your induction involves attending come of our corporate volunteer days, which take place on weekdays at adventure playgrounds across London.
After that, the position is fully remote and can fit around your studies or other commitments.
