Elevate Productions is a social enterprise which seeks to diversify the creative industries and platform underrepresented communities. They are seeking research volunteers for a literature review as part of a project aimed at documenting and preserving histories of LGBTQ+ migrant communities in London. The project will include a series of workshops, storytelling sessions and creative labs, culminating in an exhibition and documentary.
The literature review will focus on scoping information about LGBTQ+ migrant communities in London 1960s-present. There will be three main themes:
- Impact of migration on LGBTQ+ identities
- Role of chosen families within LGBTQ+ identities
- Exploration of safe spaces in LGBTQ+ identities
Within this, the students are encouraged to explore intangible aspects of identity (language, culture, memories) as well as tangible (objects, food, images).
The students will have access to the Bishopsgate Institute in Liverpool Street. This is the largest LGBTQ+ archive in the UK. However, the representation of migrants in this archive is limited. Students will therefore be encouraged to consult alternative sources (such as academic papers and other research) for their review. It is hoped that this project will contribute towards the Bishopsgate Institute archive.
