Age UK Kensington & Chelsea
Age UK Kensington & Chelsea is a local charity working with and for older people. We aim to promote independence and well-being in later life, encouraging self-help and peer support. We offer a wide range of services and activities, and provide interesting opportunities for people of all ages to get involved as volunteers.
Description

Our Digital Clinics are designed to support over 55s Kensington & Chelsea residents who feel isolated and digital excluded. By teaching basic IT skills, you empower them to join group activities and stay in touch with loved ones.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide 1-on-1 support for laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
  • Troubleshoot basic tech issues in a friendly, "drop-in" environment.
  • Help users feel confident using digital cameras and apps.

Duties

Your Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greet attendees as they arrive at the library, making them feel comfortable and assessing what they need help with that day.
  • Guide members through tasks such as setting up an email, using WhatsApp to message family, navigating the internet safely, or transferring photos from a digital camera.
  • Instead of just "fixing" the device, you will show the member how to do it themselves to build their long-term confidence.
  • Encourage members to use their devices to find and join local group activities, helping to reduce their sense of isolation.

We will provide a comprehensive induction to introduce you to our mission, our members, and the specific needs of the over-55 community.

You will be supported by our team to ensure you feel confident in your role and have all the tools you need to help our members effectively.

Time commitment

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one of our monthly sessions. Our clinics run for 2 hours at the following times:

- Chelsea Library: The last Thursday of every month | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Kensington Central Library: The third Thursday of every month | 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
- North Kensington Library: The last Thursday of every month | 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Note: As these are recurring monthly sessions, we value volunteers who can provide consistent, long-term support to our members.
