At GFS, we give girls the tools they need to be themselves.

By helping girls develop a strong sense of self from an early age, we equip them with the skills needed to handle pressures and face life’s challenges as they get older.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our local GFS group as Activity Leaders, creating a safe, inclusive, and fun space for girls aged 5 and up.

We are looking for volunteers for our GFS Mile End Group on Saturday mornings. GFS offers weekly group sessions to that offer support, fun and friendship for girls in local communities. We are looking for women who are passionate about helping girls reach their potential by offering new experiences and supporting them to make new friends.

You will be supported by a GFS Group Coordinator and we will provide you with a DBS and all training needed for the role. We are looking for women happy to share their skills and interests with the girls through a range of activities including arts and crafts, skills for life, sports and community participation

Duties

We’re looking for volunteers to join our local GFS group as Activity Leaders, creating a safe, inclusive, and fun space for girls aged 5 and up.

What will you do?

  • Help run engaging, girl-led weekly activities (materials and ideas provided).
  • Engage with and support girls to feel confident, valued, and heard.
  • Share ideas, reflect on what girls enjoy, and help shape termly activity plans.
  • Lead activities, as agreed with the Group Coordinator and volunteer team.
  • Get involved in planning, team meetings, and occasional trips or events.
  • Treat every girl, parent, volunteer and task within the GFS values of being girl-focused, brave, feminist, ambitious, inclusive and fun.
  • Understand GFS policy and procedures and follow them, especially safeguarding.

Who are we looking for?

  • You’re friendly, reliable, and passionate about giving girls new opportunities.
  • You enjoy helping out in a team and are open to leading small parts of sessions.
  • You are keen to learn; whether it’s how to run activities, first aid, or safeguarding.
  • You believe in equity, accessibility and want to help every girl feel proud of who she is.
Who will the volunteers be working with?
You'll be working with girls aged 5 and up from the local community.
Training
What you’ll get:

• Full training provided (including safeguarding, first aid & food hygiene if needed).
• Extra learning opportunities through our National Training sessions and learning platform.
• An Enhanced DBS check provided by GFS.
• A warm, inclusive team of women volunteers.

Time commitment

Activity Leaders will set up, attend and pack down the weekly group which is two hours on a Saturday morning. There is also an additional hour or so of planning per week.

Ideally volunteers would be able to commit to at least nine months of volunteering (1 academic year)
