Student life needs student leaders, will it be you?
All areas of student life, from clubs, societies and networks to the whole the Students' Union, are led by an incredible group of student leaders, and you can be a student leader too. Each year thousands put themselves forward in the Leadership Race. And each March, every student at UCL votes to elect their future leaders.
Make more happen across sports at UCL by becoming a Sports Rep
For the first time in 2025 the Sports Reps elections are moving to The Leadership Race! This change will give the Reps the summer to begin working with the staff team at TeamUCL and elected officers to ensure they maximise their impact in the roles.
The Sports Rep role is a critical link for you to input into, and influence, sport at UCL. Working with the Sports Officer, the Reps gather feedback from clubs and club members across the TeamUCL delivery programme to understand how to improve the sport experience for students. They work closely with the team at the Students' Union to influence changes students want to see.
As well as sitting on Activities Zone to ensure representation on key topics for sports clubs, the Reps sit on the TeamUCL Awards to make sure that we recognise the incredible activity delivered by UCL students.
Some of the work that the Sports Reps have influenced this year includes:
Varsity
Our Sports Reps work alongside our Sports Officer and Activities & Engagement Officer to make Varsity the biggest and best it has ever been. They have been busy shaping every aspect of the event—planning watch parties, choosing merchandise, and driving promotional campaigns across UCL. You could be part of the team helping to deliver Varsity next year and have your say on one of the Students' Unions biggest events.
Sports Night
During 2024-2025, Sports Reps introduced an exclusive entry window to Phineas for clubs to ensure members can access the night dedicated to celebrating their Wednesday successes while also introducing queue jump passes for our Welfare Officers to ensure they are not penalised for the support they provide to their members. As a Sports Rep, you can be part of the change you want to see, making a difference to members. Being a Sports rep is one of the most effective ways to make more happen.
Building awareness on issues that matter to students
Current sports reps have been working with the elected officers and Students’ Union staff to plan an awareness campaign highlighting the risks of eating disorders in sports and how our clubs can support their members in an inclusive way. You can be part of driving change in areas which deeply matter to students and continue to make an impact in this space.
Expanding sports facilities
One of the key challenges for sport at UCL is facility space and the Reps have used their voice to highlight the importance of securing new facilities for physical activity with successes across multiple projects, including the new gym space at UCL East. As a Sports Rep, what you can do to represent the voices of students can make a big difference.
Work with volunteers
For the first time, we are uniting all officers responsible for volunteering within clubs to improve coordination and share best practices. Sports Reps have identified this as a key opportunity to drive meaningful change, and in this role, you’ll collaborate with an incredible team of volunteers to make a real impact on local communities.
This is an incredible opportunity for passionate people to influence decisions, shape policies, and represent sports on key committees—driving real change and helping us achieve more in sports across UCL. If you're thinking about running for this role, go for it".
