Our Project Activators

Name: Adil Patel

Course: PhD Physics

Session: Postgraduate Project Active Regents Park Run

I enjoy volunteering for Project Active because I love to get people more active, especially since postgraduate life can be very stressful. Sports keeps people healthy and improves their mood, which really helps students cope with the student life. Plus, Regent’s Park on a sunny day will always brighten your mood!

My favourite part of this role is seeing people achieve something they never thought they could do. Some runners completed their very first 5K with us, while others ran for the first time after years of inactivity.

Name: Enkuule Mergen

Course: BSc Human Sciences

I enjoy volunteering for Project Active as I think its focus on engaging unrepresented groups really exemplifies how an access scheme can support people in ways that aren't academic.

Being in central London, I think it's easy to overlook the value of physical activity but I'm excited to help shift perceptions on getting out there!

Name: Sarah Nahar Azmi

Course: BA Education Studies

Hi everyone! I am an international student from Singapore. I am so excited to be a Project Activator to meet new friends and encourage every one of you in your own fitness journey!

I totally understand the daunting feeling of starting your first run or heading to a new fitness class for the first time (we've all been there!). If Project Active is your first step to a more active lifestyle or you are aiming for a PB, I am proud and excited to meet all of you at our future Project Active events! See you there!

Name: Ethan Howe

Course: Global Humanitarian Studies

I’m a first year Global Humanitarian Studies student, enthusiastic about volunteering, running and being involved in UCL sporting events.

I signed up as a Project Active volunteer as I know the importance of accessible and fun opportunities to develop physical abilities in the building confidence for all aspects of life.

I look forward to seeing the behind the scenes of Team UCL sporting events, especially the UCL 5km Run and UCL Campus Run.

Name: Gideon Chan

Hey everyone, I am Gideon, a first-year geographer from Hong Kong. As an international student studying far away from home, I understand the challenges that a lot of us face, whether it's the unfamiliar language, culture, food, or the community - everything's a big change! This is why I became a Project Activator - to create an inclusive environment, help everyone build bonds and relationships, and discover another side of life, whether if it's sports or anything. Project Active is a space where we can all be our true selves while valuing one another. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Name: Sofia Buffoni

Course: Spanish with Management Studies

I am a second-year student who enjoys being active, keeping fit and challenging myself wherever I can. Project Active is a great way to not only meet people, but also try something new without the pressure. University can be intense and stressful, but I think it is so important to have an easily accessible space where you can move and forget about deadlines for a while. I hope everyone finds an activity they enjoy, and I can’t wait to meet you all!

Name: Li, Benjamin

Course: Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Hey, I’m Ben and I’m going to be running the Project Active Badminton Sessions in Bobby Moore Academy. I’m currently in my second year studying Robotics & AI based fully in UCL East. I’ve been playing badminton since I was a kid with my parents, and I’m looking forward to sharing this sport with you and doing what I can to help you enjoy the sport just like I do. Hope to see you at the sessions soon!

Name: Vanrika Satyan

Course: BA International Social and Political Studies with a year abroad

Hi, I am a fourth year ISPS and Mandarin student, just got back from a year in Beijing. Project Active is such an exciting opportunity not only to get active but also to meet people and discover London. I find picking up new things so much easier when done in good company and with Project Active, I hope to enable more people to find their good company. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Name: Julia Lusicka

Course: Pharmaceutical Formulation and Entrepreneurship.

I am currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Formulation and Entrepreneurship. I have always enjoyed sports casually as they make me feel good. After attending Project Active classes such as Dance Fit, Barre, and Pilates in Term 1, I wanted to become more involved. I had a wonderful time in those classes and would love to help others experience that as well. I’m also excited about the opportunity to gain more experience with social media through Project Active. I believe this will be a great way to combine my interests in fitness and community engagement.

Name: Saho Ikeuchi

Course: BSc Politics and International Relations

Hi, I am a first year Politics and International Relation student from Japan. It is easy for all students to become stressful and feel isolated in a busy uni life, especially for students who came from other countries where climates and cultures are completely different from London. Project Active is one of opportunities to get away from the stressful studies and feel relax. So excited to meet new friends and have activities together!

Name: Orlando Zurita Lagos

Course: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Hi! I’m a postgraduate international student from Chile. Back home, I loved going on hiking activities with my friends and getting lost (fortunately mentally and not physically) in the beautiful parks. Now that I’m studying in London, I’ve found Project Active to be a very friendly and accessible way to take a break from academic life through physical activity. It helps me stay positive, manage stress, and even concentrate better in my tasks.   This is why I’ve joined as a volunteer at Project Active, because I’d love to help others experience the same! So, now it’s your turn! Step out, meet some new people, and enjoy healthy breaks through movement. I look forward to seeing you at one (or hopefully many) of our upcoming activities. See you soon
