Our Project Activators
Name: Adil Patel
Course: PhD Physics
Session: Postgraduate Project Active Regents Park Run
I enjoy volunteering for Project Active because I love to get people more active, especially since postgraduate life can be very stressful. Sports keeps people healthy and improves their mood, which really helps students cope with the student life. Plus, Regent’s Park on a sunny day will always brighten your mood!
My favourite part of this role is seeing people achieve something they never thought they could do. Some runners completed their very first 5K with us, while others ran for the first time after years of inactivity.
Name: Enkuule Mergen
Course: BSc Human Sciences
I enjoy volunteering for Project Active as I think its focus on engaging unrepresented groups really exemplifies how an access scheme can support people in ways that aren't academic.
Being in central London, I think it's easy to overlook the value of physical activity but I'm excited to help shift perceptions on getting out there!
Name: Sarah Nahar Azmi
Course: BA Education Studies
Hi everyone! I am an international student from Singapore. I am so excited to be a Project Activator to meet new friends and encourage every one of you in your own fitness journey!
I totally understand the daunting feeling of starting your first run or heading to a new fitness class for the first time (we've all been there!). If Project Active is your first step to a more active lifestyle or you are aiming for a PB, I am proud and excited to meet all of you at our future Project Active events! See you there!
Name: Ethan Howe
Course: Global Humanitarian Studies
I’m a first year Global Humanitarian Studies student, enthusiastic about volunteering, running and being involved in UCL sporting events.
I signed up as a Project Active volunteer as I know the importance of accessible and fun opportunities to develop physical abilities in the building confidence for all aspects of life.
I look forward to seeing the behind the scenes of Team UCL sporting events, especially the UCL 5km Run and UCL Campus Run.
Name: Gideon Chan
Hey everyone, I am Gideon, a first-year geographer from Hong Kong. As an international student studying far away from home, I understand the challenges that a lot of us face, whether it's the unfamiliar language, culture, food, or the community - everything's a big change! This is why I became a Project Activator - to create an inclusive environment, help everyone build bonds and relationships, and discover another side of life, whether if it's sports or anything. Project Active is a space where we can all be our true selves while valuing one another. I look forward to meeting everyone.
Name: Sofia Buffoni
Course: Spanish with Management Studies
I am a second-year student who enjoys being active, keeping fit and challenging myself wherever I can. Project Active is a great way to not only meet people, but also try something new without the pressure. University can be intense and stressful, but I think it is so important to have an easily accessible space where you can move and forget about deadlines for a while. I hope everyone finds an activity they enjoy, and I can’t wait to meet you all!
Name: Jennifer Tan
Hi there, I'm Jen and I'm excited to meet you at one of our upcoming Project Active sessions! I'm an avid gym goer and also play squash and ultimate frisbee, which I picked up at university. It's really easy to forget to take care of your health through the chaos of doing a degree, so I hope that Project Active helps in making sports and physical activity more accessible to all. See you guys soon!
