What would you like the Union to do?
Students' Union UCL should encourage UCL sports clubs to specify what gender their club is for on all platforms through the training offered to clubs and through the development point scheme.
Why would you like to do this?
Because as a woman who has played football and team sports for most of my life, I am tired of being labelled like this. These kinds of names are being abandoned in other areas of our vocabulary, e.g. actor is now used as the norm, rather that actress. Would you call a doctor who happened to be female a 'lady doctor' or is it now a low-key offensive term? I'm certain very few have ever had to say 'man doctor' by way of definition.
How will this affect students?
It will make UCL societies and sport in particular a more inclusive space, especially for women. We hear all the time that there aren't enough young girls and women playing sports, but rarely anything is done about it, I believe this will be a small step in the right direction.
