Join us to help maintain a local community garden just walking distance from UCL East!

Gainsborough Bridge Gardens is a simple idea with a slightly radical implication: Green space shouldn’t be something you merely pass through, it should be something you can shape, share, and grow with your own hands. This project is about turning a patch of public land into a living, local commons. A place where food, nature, skills, and neighbourliness can take root.

So come along with your peers and help look after this precious pocket of green space!

What will we be doing?

  • You'll be working alongside fellow students in a fun, hands-on and sociable environment, making a real difference to a community space which is local to UCL East
  • Clearing and tidying the garden by removing weeds and general garden waste.
  • Helping to refresh the outdoor space by clearing out and improving planting areas, and planting fresh produce.
  • Working as a team to make the space is safer and more welcoming for the local community. We'll have a chance to socialise, reflect and get to know each other and learn more about how you can get involved in group volunteering!

Where will we meet?

The Garden can be tricky to find, so we'll all meet at the coffee shop opposite!

Saint Espresso, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, 13 E Bay Ln, London E20 3BS.

What is a Big Help Out?

Big Help Outs are fun one-off volunteering opportunities that involve a big group. It's all about small actions creating big change when we work together. At our events, you’ll always find friendly student and staff faces to make sure you feel welcome and supported.

Why Join In?

  • Make a visible impact: Help transform a local community space, creating a more welcoming environment for children, families, older people and the wider community.
  • Meet new people: Spend the day with fellow UCL students in a friendly, relaxed environment while giving back together.
  • Try volunteering with no long-term commitment: Gain hands-on volunteering experience, learn about local community organisations, and discover other ways to get involved through Students' Union UCL.

By signing up, you’ve claimed a limited ticket. This ticket does not confirm your spot as we will send you an email closer to the date to ask you to confirm your place, as there are only a limited number of spots available.
