This face to face workshop will develop your skills in finding scholarly literature for assignments, dissertations or theses, looking at identifying concepts within your search, developing a search string using connectors and common search techniques, and practical application of these skills.

In the session we will focus on Web of Science and Scopus, which both cover a wide range of subjects including biomedical sciences, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, and arts and humanities.

This session covers:

  • Creating an effective search strategy to find literature on your topic.
  • Search tips and features for advanced searching in academic databases.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Formulate an effective search strategy in key academic databases.
  • Use advanced search techniques to focus your search, e.g. Boolean operators, phrase searching and truncation.
