Progress in Alzheimer’s Disease Research: Hope for a Better Future!
The UCL Dementia Research and Biochemistry Society are honoured to host a talk by Professor Bart De Strooper, a world-renowned leader in Alzheimer’s disease research.
📅 Date: 24 March
⏰ Time: 5:00–6:00 PM
📍 Location: G02 Watson LT, Medawar Building
Professor Bart De Strooper was formerly based at KU Leuven in Belgium and served as the founding Institute Director of the UK Dementia Research Institute (2017–2023). He previously directed the Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie (VIB), leading a neuroscience department of over 250 researchers.
He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2020 and has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Potamkin Prize, the MetLife Foundation Award for Medical Research in Alzheimer’s Disease, the Alois Alzheimer’s Prize, the Brain Prize (2018), and Commander in the Order of Leopold I.
Professor De Strooper’s research group at the UK DRI at UCL investigates the fundamental molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, with the aim of translating mechanistic insight into therapeutic strategies.
In this talk, he will share the latest advances in Alzheimer’s research and discuss why there is genuine reason for optimism about the future of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
We hope to see everyone there!
