Camden Canals Narrowboat Association
Our aim is to offer disadvantaged community groups an experience of a canal trip on a traditional narrowboat. We run and maintain 'Tarporley' - a historic Northwich narrowboat, converted to carry 12 passengers. We mainly do day or evening trips but also longer ones as passengers & crew can sleep aboard. Volunteers help run the boat, crewing, supporting passengers, working locks, mooring,…
Description

At Camden Canals and Narrowboat Association we are looking to improve our website and develop a fully integrated booking system that will allow both private and charity bookings and will fully integrate with our database / spreadsheet to give us an overview of what is being booked and what money is coming in.

Duties

We would like to ensure regular, useful information is available on the website in a way that can be easily updated by anyone who has the relevant permissions (blogs, vlogs, news reel etc); adding photographs and / or multimedia should be as simple as drag and drop or find file upload; links to Google Maps should be incorporated where appropriate and the website should have active links with our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. The website is currently written in Joomla but we have no objection to it being rewritten in Wordpress.

Members of this group will be expected to work closely with the trustees, the executive, the outreach team and the historical team to ensure good quality, informative and accurate content. Successful applicants will be invited to travel with us on the canal and will have a choice about helping with the boat and locks or just to travel and gain knowledge to help with their work.

Time commitment

There is no fixed commitment of hours for this project but we would expect that it would be completed in a reasonable time. We are looking for students who are prepared to commit to improving the website and maintaining it for at least the current academic year. We would hope at the end of this time you would be able to train other volunteers to maintain it once you have passed it on.

This organisation is one of our community partner organisations.

Like all volunteer recruiters we work with, they have signed up to our service standards, agreeing to abide by our policy on partnership working to keep you safe and supported whilst you volunteer.

You’ll never be out of pocket for volunteering through us – with in-London travel expenses to and from your volunteering guaranteed.

In addition, the team here at Students’ Union UCL Volunteering Service is here to support you throughout your volunteering journey – you can get in touch with us at any time.
