I'm Nikki and I'm running for Paediatric Surgery Chair. This year as Education Officer, I’ve seen our society's potential, and the impact well organised events, interesting speakers, and a welcoming environment can have. I would love to build on this next year as Chair. I organised a panel of surgeons speaking about their training pathways, and supported the running of various talks, ensuring logistics ran smoothly and events felt polished. This role helped me learn about what works and what doesn’t, such as the importance of planning and clear communication within a committee. I aim to make our Big Cuts, Little Cuts series succeed- comparing adult and paediatric surgery; exploring the misconception that paediatric surgery is just 'mini surgery’. I aim to utilise Instagram, to post more surgically relevant paediatric content.

I’d love to organise more specialty talks (welcoming other University collaboration), based on what students want to hear about - whether that’s congenital anomalies, paediatric trauma, neonatal surgical emergencies etc. I’m currently undertaking my iBSc in Paediatrics and Child Health, and I’ve been involved in various paediatric volunteering/academic roles. Ultimately, I’m running for Chair because I care about this society. If you’ve attended one of our talks or workshops this year,  I hope that gives you confidence in what I could bring as Chair. If you haven’t engaged much yet, I’d love the chance to create events next year that make you want to!
