Lily Elms

I have loved being part of the Novice Women’s squad this year, and I would really value the opportunity to help strengthen and grow this community next year. My aim is to create a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable trying the sport, supported by their teammates, and motivated to push themselves and their crews to improve.

As Novice Women’s Captain, my main priorities would be:

  • Building a strong community: I want to recreate the welcoming, supportive culture that made this year so enjoyable, helping novices build friendships within the squad and feel connected to the wider UCLBC community.
  • Supporting individual development: Every rower joins with different goals and levels of experience. I want everyone to feel encouraged, recognised, and confident as they progress both on and off the water.
  • Keeping morale high: I want to focus on maintaining enthusiasm, motivation, and team spirit throughout the season despite how challenging the winter can be.

As Novice Women's Captain, I would be someone approachable and supportive who squad members feel comfortable coming to with questions or concerns. My experience as a House Captain helped me develop leadership, organisation, and teamwork skills which I am eager to dedicate to UCLBC. UCLBC has introduced me to a sport I’ve grown to love and given me the chance to meet some of my closest friends. It would be an honour to contribute to the same welcoming and supportive experience for next year’s novices.
