The role of Chief Editor combines expertise in editorial skills along with leadership. I possess the skill set to support both of those demands, whilst providing a creative component. From serving as Head Girl to being a two-time Course Representative, I have honed my ability to lead teams with confidence, bringing out their full potential and driving success. I have winning organisational skills to promote routine publishing, and to support all editors with their respective subjects. Moreover, I have cultivated interdisciplinary thinking, a fundamental practice for being Chief Editor. Fusing all these skills, my central concept is a visually appealing, page turning, online magazine, comprising recent articles and science photography (I posted a demo on the Whatsapp groupchat). Additionally, I wish to work towards a termly, tangible UCL Science Magazine, encompassing all the articles from that term. In order for article writers, and editors, to have a physical copy of their remarkable work. I believe these magazine ideas foster a strong sense of community within our science journalism society, and I am eager to nurture this spirit of collaboration and belonging. I would like to increase our readership as well as the bank of talented authors that we publish. If I were Chief Editor, I’d curate each issue while leading the team with efficiency and creativity, ensuring every piece is polished, engaging, and inspiring beyond the final page.

Calista Chan

Hey everyone! I’m Calista. I study pharmacology, and I’m thrilled to be running for Chief Editor this year!

As Senior Editor for my high school’s newsletter and current contributor for the Science Magazine, I’ve developed a solid foundation in editorial work, as well as a strong set of organizational and leadership skills that will help me thrive in this role. I enjoy reading others’ work, learning about new scientific discoveries, and helping writers craft compelling, well-researched articles. Combined with my passion for science and technology, I’m confident that I am well-equipped to make a meaningful and worthwhile contribution to this society.

As Chief Editor, I’m excited to support our team by offering technical guidance and fostering a creative space for student contributors across all disciplines. It is my top priority to guide and assist our members through the writing process, ensuring they feel well-supported every step of the way.

Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside all of you next year!
