Welcome to the UCL Genetics Society!
The UCL Genetics Society (or GenSoc as it’s colloquially known) serves as a body for enriching students’ understanding of genetics and related fields through a wide range of events and publications. Furthermore, it provides an environment where people of all disciplines can come together to share ideas for the field, fostering a welcoming community.
🧬 Throughout the 2025-26 academic year GenSoc will be hosting both regular and one-off events, including the following:
- Journal Club events (Bi-Weekly)

Presentations by PhD students on exciting research topics — great for learning what research is really like and meeting people in the field with monthly genetic themes (e.g., gene and nucleic acid therapies, immunogenomics / multiomics, cancer, microbiology, aging, etc.)
- External Speaker Events/Seminars (Monthly)

GenSoc aims to host a range of external speaker events, giving members the chance to hear from professionals in a range of professions including research, industry, and journalism. If you would like to hear from someone in particular, please reach out and we will do our best to contact them.
- Social Events (Monthly)

GenSoc will be hosting regular social events, which may include attending conference, picnics, quizzes, games, and many more. We can’t wait to meet you there!
- Lab Visits (Termly)

A great way to explore real-world research settings and chat with scientists. We’re planning visits to world-leading research institutes like the Crick Institute, ICH, and MRC, with potential industry day trips too!
- Career and Academic conferences (Termly)

Continuing last year’s successful Personalized Medicine Conference, we’re excited to host another academic conference in Term 2 with the theme Cancer Genomics, exploring the cutting-edge applications of genetics in cancer research and treatment!
- Internship panel (Annually)

We have seen many GenSoc members seeking for "paid" lab experience, before they begin their dissertation project. However, generally these are very competitive, and we would like to assist our members by holding internship panel where we invite seniors with prior experience in obtaining scholarships/studentships. This is an opportunity where members can seek for advice from successful students in preparing for their own internship applications.

- Blogs: GenSoc’s blog is a space where both members and committee alike can share written pieces in a professional published format. Any topic in the field of genetics is fair game – whatever your interest, we want to hear it! We have Editor in Chief of Blog this year, who will recruit articles each term. To accommodate members with a range of experience, GenSoc will pitch academic events and writing at a lower undergraduate level, as well as providing the means for those with greater prior experience to further build on their knowledge.
