What is the UCL Cancer Charities Alliance Society (CCA)?
The UCL Cancer Charities Alliance Society (CCA) is UCL’s only student society dedicated to tackling cancer. We aim to raise awareness, support patients and families, and empower students to take part in cancer-related volunteering and advocacy. Our work includes regular fundraising events for charities, community building socials, and internship panels to guide students into research.
Central to our mission is the student-led volunteering project UCL Cancer Care, which uses our social media platforms to spread awareness about cancer, improve public understanding of the disease and its treatment, and encourage prevention and early detection. Through these initiatives, we strive to inform students, support patients in making better decisions, and promote proactive health monitoring and cancer prevention across the wider community.
Our Core Activities for this academic year (2026-2027) will be:
- Organise awareness campaigns that will include fundraising activities (i.e., bake sales and selling used items such as books), in which the majority of the profit from each sale will be donated to either cancer patient support programmes or local cancer charities.
- Partner with local cancer support organisations such as Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK. Through collaboration, we can provide access to valuable resources (i.e., booklets and leaflets) providing detailed information about specific cancer types treatment options and other practical advice to the general public.
- Promoting cancer awareness and delivering educational programmes through digital content, newsletters, and social media campaigns. Our content will explore a wide range of cancer types, treatment strategies, epidemiological trends, and key risk factors, providing students and the wider community with the knowledge and understanding needed to support cancer prevention, encourage early detection, and enhance awareness of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Organise quarterly conferences and talks to provide a platform for experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals at UCL Cancer Institute to share the latest advancements, research findings, and best practices in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care.
- Organise Social Events including quiz nights, picnics, and collaborative events with other UCL societies to foster a welcoming and inclusive community. We will also host an annual CCA Members’ Celebration (June) to recognise our members' contributions, celebrate the impact of our society’s work, and strengthen connections among those committed to raising cancer awareness and supporting those affected by cancer.
