UCL American Football Club won a gold development award and bronze TeamUCL Against Hate award in 2026, demonstrating our drive for progress, success, and inclusivity on and off the pitch! 

American Football is rapidly growing in the UK, the majority of our members had never played American Football before joining the team, and many had never played a contact sport before (there is absolutely no size or skill requirement to play American football at this level). Alongside regular training from experienced qualified coaches, we host a wide-range of socials through the year. If you are thinking of starting a new sport, or are looking to continue your journey through American football, the UCL Emperors are perfect for you!

We currently play in BUCS Division 2 South East, along with UEA, ARU, City, Essex, Greenwich, and Imperial. Throughout the last few seasons, we have experienced a lot of success, including a Division 2 SE title and subsequent promotion in 2024 and a big varsity win over KCL in 2025. This year we will be looking to repeat these achievements (among others), but we need YOUR help!

We also offer Flag Football - a non-contact, faster-paced version of American Football, including 2 tournaments in term 3 (BUCS and LUSL respectively). There is a separate flag football membership if you are only interested in the flag team, however it is also included in the competitive contact memberships.

Alongside the competitive side of the club, we host regular socials throughout the year including joint socials with other sports teams on Wednesday evenings, team meals, non-alcoholic socials, and watching the NFL on Sundays at local pubs. Our members are an inclusive group that is LGBTQ+ friendly, racially diverse, and mixed gender, this sport and this club are for everyone!

Membership

We offer the following competitive memberships:

  • Rookie - for new members, including any students who have not been in the club before (£140)
  • Returning - for returning members who have been in the club before (£170)
  • Single term - for anyone who would only like to join for 1 term, either term 1 or term 2 (£90)
  • Varsity - only valid for varsity training sessions and the London Varsity Series match against KCL (£30)
  • Flag - only valid for flag training sessions, and BUCS and LUSL tournaments in term 3 (£25); also included in other competitive memberships 

Our competitive memberships include the following benefits at no extra cost:

  • All American Football Equipment (helmet, chest pads, lower pads, jerseys, etc.) - approximately £500 in value!
  • Coaching (physical training hours and film study hours) with experienced qualified coaches
  • 2 weekly training sessions on grass/4G pitches
  • Scrimmage (pre-season joint practice with Royal Holloway)
  • 6 regular season matches throughout the year (and the potential for more if we reach playoffs!)
  • Team bus transportation to and from away games
  • Varsity against KCL at the end of term 2 (all competitive members are guaranteed to play!)

As well as competitive memberships, we also offer a Social membership, which includes access to all social events and other opportunities external to fixtures and training sessions.

Tasters

Still unsure? We offer 3 free non-contact taster sessions where you can come and try the sport out. The details for each taster session are:

  • Thursday 1st October, 12-2pm, Coram's Fields (Brunswick Square, London, WC1N 1AZ)
  • Wednesday 7th October, 12-2pm, Coram's Fields (Brunswick Square, London, WC1N 1AZ)
  • Saturday 10th October, 2-4pm, Regent's Park Open Space (see Instagram @uclemperors)
