Applications for our 2023 Welcome One-Offs are open!
Our Welcome One-Off Volunteering events run during the Welcome Period, and are a great way for students to try out volunteering, meet other students, and make an impact on the community.
These one-day events are run each year by some of the Volunteering Service's amazing partner organisations across London. One-off volunteering is easy to fit around busy schedules, and a great way to build new skills and gain new opportunities in just one day. Read about our 2022 Welcome One-Off events here.
What are the Welcome One-Offs?
Students' Union UCL Volunteering Service is promoting several one-off opportunities during the Welcome Period for students to try out volunteering!
One-off volunteering events take up a day or half a day, with no longer term commitment.
These events are also aimed specifically to UCL students, so you'll be volunteering in a group of 10-20 UCL students on the day! It's a great way to make friends across departments and academic years.
Overall, the Welcome One-Offs are a perfect way to meet and network with volunteering organisations and like-minded students, explore what it's like to volunteer in London and improve your skills!
As with all of the volunteering we offer, taking part won't cost you a penny and you can claim back your travel expenses within London.
What one-off opportunities are offered?
This year we are funding 6 amazing organisations to put on unique one time volunteering events specifically for UCL students! You can read more about the organisations and the opportunities we are supporting below and learn how to apply to them.
Heath Hands
Heath Hands helps conserve 350 hectares of dynamic green spaces. Help Heath Hands on Wednesday 27th September by taking part in natural conservation and habitat management of one of London's prime green spaces, Hampstead Heath!

Cody Dock
Explore Cody Dock, one of London's most exciting creative spaces through a one-off volunteering opportunity. Volunteer at their annual Beer & Bats event and help them identify and record all bats during the event on Saturday the 30th of September.

Age UK Kensington & Chelsea
Age UK Kensington & Chelsea provide peer support for older people and help promote their independence and wellbeing later in heir life. Want to actively combat loneliness among older people? Then why not join Age UK for one of three one off opportunities that they are hosting during Welcome Week!
Host a Games and Afternoon Tea session and play board games with the community or help older people use their phones and laptops during the Digital Clinic on Tuesday the 26th of September.
You can also join their free gentle walking group to support over 55s local residents to meet new people and increase their physical activity levels.

The Garden Trust
The Gardens Trust is dedicated to protecting historical parks, gardens and other designed landscapes in the UK. Join them for a one-off opportunity walking through Bloomsbury to help promote existing guided walks across historical landscapes and help assess how accessible their trails are to a wider and more diverse audience on Wednesday 27th September!

C4WS Winter Homeless Shelter
C4WS Homeless project support those without a home to rebuild their lives. Join C4WS Homeless Shelter and help host their Friday Club Lunch on Friday the 29th of September to support homeless and vulnerably housed people!

Lifeafterhummus
Lifeafterhummus run an incredible surplus foodbank close to UCL which helps support 80 local households who visit the foodbank. Volunteer with Lifeafterhummus and gain an insight into how the organisation helps collect and redistribute food donation to the local community on Friday 29th September!

Centre 404
Centre 404 is is a local community charity in North London that offers friendly, reliable and person-centred support to people with learning disabilities, autism and their families. Volunteer for their Autumn Party to network with their staff members and the community on the 21st of September between 5-11pm (or drop in for a shorter period of time). There will be a DJ!

Share Community
Share Community works with disabled people who need extra help and support to realise their dreams and aspirations. Volunteer for their Great British Tea Party! Gain hands on experience supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism by celebrating the British traditions of afternoon tea.
