June 1-7 is #VolunteersWeek, an opportunity to show appreciation for volunteers and all of the hard work they do. This article highlights the different ways that UCL volunteers get involved, and how others can too.

Celebrating Our Volunteers for #VolunteersWeek

This year has been rough - from multiple lockdowns to online learning and more - but UCL volunteers have persevered and made a difference. #VolunteersWeek takes place annually 1-7 June, and it’s the perfect time to recognise our volunteers and their incredible fortitude this past year.

Our volunteering community is truly wonderful and diverse, and UCL volunteers make an impact in a variety of ways. UCL volunteers have built relationships through long and short-term commitments with our network of community organisations that greatly value UCL volunteers. We also admire our Student-Led Projects, where students with motivation, initiative and vision come together to create positive change.

Even busy students with less time on their hands still make a massive difference through one-off events. (Speaking of, we’re always blown away by what volunteers are able to come up with during our Hackathons!)

Postgraduate students are also bringing their A-game by collaborating with local organisations and supporting communities in need with their research through the Community Research Initiative (CRIS).

Throughout the year, we show our appreciation by sharing student volunteering stories. These dedicated students embody the spirit of volunteering and kindly share their experiences for the benefit of others. We encourage everyone to give them a read. Then once you’re feeling inspired, consider hopping over to our volunteering directory to find a volunteering role that works for you.

At this point, you may be wondering how you can see a piece of the action. Here’s what you need to do... First, follow us on all of our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). Next, sign up for our newsletter to hear all about the latest opportunities, events, and news in UCL volunteering. Finally, celebrate with us during our Volunteering Awards on Tuesday, 8 June at 16:00! We’ll be recognising the contributions of our amazing volunteering community - and who knows, you may even see some familiar faces!
