Hi everyone! My name is Hannah, I’m a 2nd year nutrition and medical science student and I’m putting myself forward to be your next UCL yoga and meditation society welfare secretary.

I’m one of those people that never really considered yoga until pandemic hit and they needed to get their serotonin from somewhere other than social interactions. I was an on-again-off-again YouTube yogi until last summer, when I started regular yoga classes to help me decompress after work. Learning to respect and listen to my body really helped me overcome a lot of stress and self-hate that really interfered with my wellbeing during my first year at uni. Since then, yoga has become as integral to my routine as brushing my teeth, and if this whole “women in stem” thing doesn’t work out I’m seriously considering practising to be a yoga instructor. What I love most about yoga is that there’s space for everyone, regardless of skill level or desired intensity. My goals for this coming school year focuses on fostering a welcoming environment within the society through events that promote inclusivity and form positive bonds between members.

My primary visions for the 2024/2025 school year:

  • Establishing oppertunities for first years to connect and feel confident and empowered through the communal aspect of yoga! Beginner classes during fresher’s week as well as potluck dinners, arts and craft nights, welfare drop-in sessions and other low stress and positive events open to all years that can occur sporadically during the

Hey guys! I'm Ava and I am re-running as outreach officer for the 24/25 academic year!! I have really enjoyed organising the collaborative events this year with the mindful and climbing societies, as well as organising meditation workshops and the girl's can week event. Next year I plan to arrange more collab events with mindful society and more meditation workshops, since it seemed like members enjoyed engaging with breath work and practicing mindfulness, both of which I think are essential to our wellbeing. I would like to introduce more meditation-focussed activities into this society. In addition, I would love to organise collabs with a wider variety of societies in the students union, specifically calisthenics societywhich seemed to be a popular collab in 2022, and netball society! I am also open to ideas from members to how I can help foster more of a sense of community in this society, and cater the events towards what members would like to see! I hope you guys vote for me!
