Michelle Sayed

Hi everyone! We are excited to be running for plastics chair! We are passionate about plastics, having attended several surgical conferences and holding a plethora of positions such as T&O Events Officer, which involved creating a database of surgeons for mentorship, research/audit and shadowing opportunities.

We have taken the initiative to both build a large network of contacts and both have experience running large scale events, such as being student lead for the ATOMIC programme (WP for FMS) and head of engagements and recruitment for a London wide-charity auction.

We both are excited to introduce many new events to highlight this amazing specialty.

  1. Pre-clin involvement and collaboration with the wider UCL societies
    • Tutorials
    • Collabs with ucl oncology, orthopaedics and MedTech
  2. Keeping up with events throughout the year
    • Focusing on having a diverse range of speakers from many specialties from aesthetics to reconstruction and gender affirmation surgery
    • Having more events throughout the year to keep people engaged - e.g. pub quizzes, festive quizzes
    • Journal club meetings
    • Suturing workshops
  3. Research/ shadowing programme
  4. A conference!
    • Build off the work done by committee this year to make it even bigger

In short, our aims are to increase activity throughout the year to increase interest and engagement in plastics through more collaboration and more opportunities. Vote for us <3

Anish Kalyana
Francesca Pucci

Hi guys! My name is Francesca and I would love to be your Plastic Surgery chair next year! I have always dedicated myself to getting involved in this field through helping society subcommitees organising plastics-oriented events, to shadowing and networking with UCLH Plastic Surgeons. Recognising the many misconceptions surrounding this specialty, my aim as chair is to increase its visibilty by creating a larger community, building partnerships between surgeons around London and aspiring students.

My vision inclused fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, where you can learn what it takes, creating a space for dialogue, knowledge sharing and mentorships. I know it is hard to gain experice in your area of interest, but my goal is to streamline that process, helping students glean firsthand insight into this multifaceted discipline. I hope to make it easier for all members to get involved in the educational events, meaningful workshops and talks I look forward to organising!

My interests lie specifically in tissue engineering and the integration of AI in plastic surgery, and during my tenure, I would want to bridge these two fields together by strengthening the rapport with the MedTech and Bioengineering societies amongst many others.

I hope I have been able to show my passion and drive for what I want to achieve in this position and I firmly believe that with me as chair, Plastic Surgery at UCL can provide some truly invaluable opportunities to everyone.

Kannan Maheswaran

Hi everyone my name is Kannan Maheswaran and I would love to be your Plastics Chair this year. Presently, I am a part of the General Surgery subcommittee. I have developed and teached well-received tutorials elaborating on course content for students, not only for General Surgery but also for the Surgical Society Education subcommittee. My goal is to expand offerings that support enriched surgical learning if appointed Chair.

On top of my educational contributions, I am actively furthering Plastic surgery practices through research and my aim is to create a mentorship program where senior surgeons guide those eager to pursue research projects. By facilitating this work, I envision the Society deepening its commitment to surgical advancement.

After having undertaken a plastic surgery course and going to a plastic surgery conference, my eyes have been opened to the large world of plastics and its widespread impact on patients.

To conclude, my blend of educational, research, and mentoring skills coalesce to make me an ideal candidate to propel the Society forward as Plastic Surgery Chair. This year my contributions span activities that are integral pillars of the Chair role. I welcome the opportunity to combine my energy and ideas to chart an ambitious course for the future of the Society. The chance to expand everyone's knowledge on Plastic Surgery makes me even more ecstatic to be a part of the journey. I hope you vote for me as your Plastic Surgery Chair.
