Fighting homelessness is incredibly dear to my heart. Volunteering for the UCL Student Action Against Homelessness Society has been such a privilege. To develop a deeper understanding of the complex issues affecting homeless people, I recently studied a module on homelessness and healthcare. Learning about these complex issues has strengthened my determination to do all I can to fight homelessness.
As well as volunteering for this society, I also hold key roles in other charities which fight inequality. I am the regional head of In2MedSchool, a charity which helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds apply to medical school. Additionally, as part of Befriend Your Boobs, I teach girls in high risk populations how to examine themselves for breast cancer. These roles have helped me to develop my leadership, communication and organisational skills.
Furthermore, I have an abundance of experience in being a publicity officer. I have been on the social media subcommittee for RUMS Welfare for the last two years and I was also the publicity officer for the Make A Smile Society and the UCL Medical Society Pathology Subcommittee. Through these roles, I have become proficient at using Canva and strengthened my creativity.
Therefore, as a result of my determination to fight homelessness, my passion for volunteering and my experience in being a publicity officer, I believe that I am the right person for this role.
Having been involved with SAAH during second term, I found myself with a new understanding of altruism. From organising bake sales and trying desperately to scout customers with Layla, to going on outreach sessions and experiencing first hand the gravity of the homeless situation, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent with this society.
Therefore, I would like to nominate myself as publicity officer. I have a lot of experience in this field, and you can view some work that I was a part of on my instagram tags (@jeeve05). I work mostly with photography and model work, but I will be happy to work diligently to understand the additional requirements that this role requires.
Thank you for reading,
Jay
Hi SAAH!
I'm Kristin, an incoming third year MPharm student and I'm running for the role of Publicity Officer! I joined SAAH in the second half of the '23/24 academic year, and it has been a real joy working in this society, supporting the community in outreach sessions and getting to know new people! :)
For our society to make a difference, publicity is paramount to ensure that we have sufficient manpower to operate outreach events, as well as to spread the word on the prevalence of this cause. As publicity officer, I hope to use my creative skills to serve the society and strengthen our volunteer pack! Having served on a society's committee this past year, I have also learned the organisational skills to remain consistent and on track in fulfilling my duties as a committee member.
