Miriam Hetherington

Being a member of Music Society this year has made my uni experience so much better. A big part of this is meeting and making friends with people who share the same interests as me, which is why I want to be social sec next year.

As Social Sec, I would host joint socials for different groups to encourage integration throughout the society and plan fun socials like film nights, concerts, and pub trips so that there is something for everyone. I would aim to make these socials as friendly and fun as possible, whilst also being accessible and inclusive.

Planning the ball is a big responsibility, so I would talk to as many people as possible and hold surveys so that I could plan a ball that will be super fun for everyone! I am also a very organised person, so I think I would do a good job of delivering a really fun ball.

Overall, I will focus on increasing socials and attendance to socials, and having a warm and friendly environment, so vote for me if you want a wide variety of fun socials and an exciting ball!

I would love to undertake the role of Social Secretary this year as I am always up for any event - whether that be karaoke at Mully's or maybe even a little quiz night at a pub.  Being a Social Secretary I would ensure that anyone feels welcome to come along to the multitude of events hosted throughout the year and I would also make the events as accessible as possible. I would merge a few events with other societies such as Jazz/Live Music so people from across UCL can form new friendships and bond over their love for music!

Being part of Music Society at UCL has not only allowed me to be part of incredible performances and improve my music skills, but has also shown me just how social a society at UCL can really be. Although I have only been part of Music Society since this year's UCOpera, events such as Musicality have always made me feel welcome and have encouraged new friendships which have made me fall in love with the society as a whole, and this is why I think that I would be a good Social Secretary for the upcoming year.
