Life Science Society: Welfare Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Zoya and I want to be your welfare officer for UCL Life Science Society. I first arrived at university  with a limited understanding of the career prospects in this field but the society provided me with numerous resources and events that enhanced my understanding. At events , the environment was always extremely welcoming and supportive which made me feel comfortable engaging in discussion. 

As Welfare Officer , I would like to ensure  our club remains a safe space where everyone feels invited, accepted and empowered irregardless of ability and experience. I would be an accessible and helpful point of contact for all individuals and would deal with all welfare concerns in a confidential and professional manner. 

Overall, as welfare officer I would be committed to prioritising the welfare of all members and maintaining the inclusive environment the committee members have cultivated. 

Throughout my time as a biomedical sciences student at UCL, I have experienced first hand the importance of good mental health and wellbeing support, and how these have positively contributed to my overall UCL experience and academic success. Wellbeing is essential for students to thrive both personally and academically and I believe I can make an influential impact in helping to provide valuable support and resources to my fellow LSS members.

My goal as welfare officer is to ensure every student feels supported and valued and I will dedicate my time to ensuring my peers’ wellbeing and help them get the most out of their time at UCL. I intend to do this by promoting awareness of mental health in the life science community, and will be an approachable point of contact for any students needing support, whether it be related to academic stress or personal issues, and will endeavour to do my best to provide the appropriate guidance, resources and support. 

 

Ultimately, I will strive to work with UCL’s welfare services and ensure every student in the LSS feels supported, appreciated, and empowered to reach their full potential.

As a passionate Biomedical Sciences student at UCL, I've cherished the invaluable connections and friendships I've formed with peers from diverse backgrounds. Now, I'm eager to give back to this vibrant community by serving as the Welfare Officer for the Life Sciences Society.

In this role, I aim to be a steadfast support system for every member of our society. By actively listening to concerns and feedback, I'll ensure that every voice is heard and every issue is addressed promptly and effectively. Utilizing my experience as a MUN volunteer, I'm well-versed in advocating for student needs and liaising with relevant authorities to drive positive change.

Moreover, I'm committed to implementing proactive measures such as regular welfare checks through surveys, fostering an environment where every member feels valued and supported. This opportunity not only allows me to enhance my communication skills but also enables me to forge deeper connections with my peers, fostering a stronger sense of community within our society.

I'm genuinely excited about the prospect of contributing to the well-being and growth of our society, and I look forward to the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my fellow Life Sciences students.
