Arseniy Steshenko

Hi!

I'm Arsenii - although I am a slightly new face in Jazz Society, I have loved the time I've spent here at Jazz Soc events, meeting lovely people, and playing with some immensely talented musicians. I would love to see the society grow, so more people get to enjoy the experiences I have.

But, as I'm sure most of us will know, it can be pretty daunting and intimidating to join a society you might be interested in, especially if you don't know any existing members. This is doubly true of societies like Jazz, where alongside worrying about being in a new social group, you might also worry about whether you're good enough at your instrument, or if you're familiar enough with playing Jazz, or other related anxieties. So, when I first heard of the idea for Workshops, I immediately thought it was a great idea.

First, it sort of kills two birds with one stone for members looking to join - it is a lot less intimidating being in a smaller group to get to know people, and at the same time, you get to dive into some music and hopefully learn something new about your instrument and help calm some worries about that. Of course, existing members benefit just as much - there are countless talented musicians in Jazz Soc, most of whom love to share their knowledge with others, and just as many musicians looking to improve and learn.

Given the opportunity, I would love to be part of growing the opportunities for those in Jazz Society by expanding and continuing with the Workshop initiative next year, aiming to improve the experience of

My vision is to construct unprecedented, innovative & challenging jazz workshops where musicians are liberated and able to:

  • Discover your own unique musical sound

  • Engage in thought-provoking discussions around new musical concepts

  • Build & expand on your musical repertoire

  •  Push yourself to the edge of your musical abilities

Having been a part of serval weekly jazz workshops on different instruments since the age of 11, I believe I have been positioned in an excellent place to guide our society's remarkable musicians through the next stage of their musical journey.
