Hi! I’m Izzy, a second-year history student and I would love to be your President!
If elected, I would aim to achieve:
- An increase in social activity by running more regular meet-ups, including both pub-crawls and non-drinking events. I would also ensure that society activity continues into the third term, providing much needed balance during exam season!
- Opportunities to explore a more diverse range of careers. I would continue to run the career panels and round-tables provided this year, but include a wider range of potential jobs (in particular, creative industries like journalism, media, film and publishing). Given how flexible History degrees are, hopefully these events will be useful to those unsure about their path after uni!
- More trips to historical sites within and around London. Part of my plan to increase the visibility of the History Society is to organise low-cost trips, thereby making the most of living in such a vibrant city.
I believe that I would bring a unique angle to the role, as I plan to work in a creative industry after uni and have previously won a competition for historical creative writing. My experience this year volunteering at Kenwood House in Hampstead has also been invaluable, as I’ve learnt more about the heritage industry and working in a team. Being on the History Society committee would be a full commitment and I would work hard to ensure that there is more engagement with the society next year. Thank you for reading! :)
